Recruitment Lessons from Selling Beauty Accessories on Facebook
Recruitment Lessons from Selling Beauty Accessories on Facebook
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I helped a friend sell beauty accessories on Facebook. Whilst recruitment and eCommerce might seem very different, this experience taught me some valuable lessons that apply to both selling products and hiring people.
- Make a Strong First Impression - Online buyers decide quickly whether to engage with a product listing. Clear photos and compelling descriptions are essential to catch attention. Similarly, job adverts must be well-crafted with appealing titles and concise descriptions to attract top candidates.
- Speed of Response Matters - Buyers expect fast replies on Facebook. Delayed responses often lead to lost sales. The same principle applies in recruitment: top candidates won’t wait if communication is slow or the hiring process drags on.
- Trust and Reputation Are Crucial - When buying beauty accessories, customers check reviews and seller ratings before purchasing. Likewise, candidates research employer reputation through sites like Glassdoor and LinkedIn. A strong employer brand builds trust and attracts quality applicants.
- Target the Right Audience - Not every Facebook user is a buyer, and not every applicant is the right fit. Knowing and targeting your ideal customer or candidate saves time and improves results.
Helping with selling beauty accessories on Facebook gave me fresh insights into recruitment: make a great first impression, respond quickly, build trust, and know your audience. These lessons apply whether you’re selling products or hiring talent.
